About MOBIGARDEN
WHERE WE COME FROM THE HENGDUAN RANGE
There is a place in Southwest China where five of Asia's
great rivers run parallel through the same valley system —
the Lancang, the Nu, the Jinsha, the Yalong, the Dadu —
each carving its own canyon through a mountain range that
geologists still argue about.
The Hengduan. Transverse Mountains. Named for the way they
cut against the grain of everything around them.
This is where Mobi Garden began in 2003. Not in a design
studio. In the mountains, with a specific problem to solve:
the gear available to Chinese hikers and mountaineers was
too heavy, too expensive, and built for somewhere else.
We built for here. The range set the standard.
Everything since has been an answer to what it asked.
THE ORIGINAL HÉNGDUÀN
Our first tent was built around a single engineering question:
how light can a shelter be before it stops being shelter?
The answer became the Héngduàn — a tent that balanced
structural integrity against pack weight in a way nothing
in the Chinese market had managed before. It wasn't
the lightest tent ever made. It was the lightest tent
that held when the weather came.
Over one million hikers, mountaineers, and backcountry
travelers found that out for themselves.
We've been building on that standard ever since —
through the EXO-FLEX™ pole geometry in the KONGAR series,
the layered thermal architecture of the GENNYE sleeping pads,
and every other product that carries a name drawn from
the range where it was tested.
The Héngduàn was the beginning of a question
we're still answering.
